Walking along Mornington's Scout Beach, I took multiple reference images of the beach houses, as they looked so iconic and colourful. Nice walk along there and the pier. I then drew a 2 point perspective of the beach houses in order to make the perspective more dramatic and the landscape reduced of clutter. Painted on A3 Art Spectrum 100 cotton cold press using Art Spectrum artist quality watercolour paint. Challenge was using the 0 line brush on the texture of the cold press.

The beauty of watercolor pigments is that they are very versatile. Some colors are transparent, others are opaque. Some stain, others do not. Some even have granulating properties.?When watercolors are used without too much dilution, they create solid layers of color that completely cover up anything underneath. This piece demonstrates the opaque characteristics of certain pigments. Lilly was painted as a gift for a very fine gentleman who is also my friend.
